Shan Ying, male, Han nationality, born in 1956, from Jiaohe City, Jilin Province. He is the 11th generation inheritor of Chen-style Tai Chi and the 5th generation inheritor of Wu-style Tai Chi, and a member of the Chinese Wushu Association. He has served as the Deputy Secretary-General and Deputy Supervisor of the Beijing Wu-style Tai Chi Research Association, a specially invited researcher in Tai Chi culture at the China Strategic Development Research Society, and a visiting professor at the International Students Institute of Sun Yat-sen University and the Guangzhou Pearl River Cultural Tai Chi Academy. He has been invited to teach Tai Chi at various universities, institutions, and enterprises; he is a specially invited expert judge for Tai Chi on CCTV's "Martial Arts Conference"; and he has been a guest speaker on Tai Chi programs on the Economic Channel of Guangzhou TV.
In his youth, Mr. Shan was fond of literature and martial arts, studying drunken boxing, fanzi boxing, praying mantis boxing, tongbei boxing, and various weapons under teachers such as Li Zhenxi. In 1987, due to work, he became acquainted with the great Tai Chi master Li Jingwu, deeply impressed by his profound skills. From then on, he followed him to learn Tai Chi, and after three years, in 1989, he was accepted as a disciple by Li Jingwu, systematically practicing the traditional routines and weapons of Chen-style and Wu-style Tai Chi, as well as Tai Chi push hands and internal skills for several decades, greatly improving his skills.
In the 1990s, he moved from Hebei to Lingnan, enthusiastically spreading Jingwu Tai Chi, and has many students. The list of his disciples in Lingnan Jingwu Tai Chi includes numerous scholars (Li Jingwu's disciple list).
Master Shan Ying
Mr. Shan Ying has a profound understanding of Tai Chi theory. Combining decades of Tai Chi practice insights and teaching experience, he has summarized the theory of "Four Ones": Tai Chi is "a very comprehensive sport, a very classic culture, a very practical cultivation, and a very profound realm." He proposed that practicing Tai Chi should restore its "original appearance," namely "taking routines as the body, using push hands as the application, using weapons as the supplement, taking neutrality as the foundation, taking breath control as the essence, taking theoretical study as the cultivation, and taking enlightenment as the return." He co-authored "A Thousand Thoughts and Questions on Tai Chi" (2005, China Customs Press) with Gao Zhuangfei, "Revealing the Secrets of Internal Martial Arts" (2007, China Customs Press) with Zuo Zhiqiang, and "One Punch, One World" (2014, Lingnan Cultural and Artistic Press); participated in compiling and publishing "Li Jingwu's Transmission of Chen and Wu Traditional Tai Chi Weapons" and "30 Tai Chi Offensive and Defensive Techniques" tutorial; published papers such as "Seven Days of Tai Chi," "Tai Chi Guide Manual," "Tai Chi Studies," and "On the Understanding of Tai Chi"; and compiled teaching materials such as "Tai Chi Five Elements Skill," "Five Elements Linked Stance," and "Seven Days of Tai Chi," which have had a wide impact in academia.
Mr. Shan has been invited multiple times to Hong Kong, Macau, and overseas to participate in academic exchanges on Tai Chi culture, leading teams to achieve good results in related competitions. In May 2018, at the Second Overseas Wu-style Tai Chi Disciples Friendship Exchange Conference held in Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province, he was awarded the "Special Contribution Award." He actively promotes Tai Chi culture and recorded the "Tai Chi Five Elements Skill" program for Guangzhou TV, bringing Tai Chi wellness into thousands of households. Since moving from Hebei to Lingnan in the 1990s, he has enthusiastically spread Jingwu Tai Chi, and to date, he has over a hundred disciples.
